My Nanny Joan, by Stewart Pink 8th June 2015

When I think of all the people The lives that Nan has touched I find it overwhelming That one person did so much Though she never seemed too busy And barely stopped to rest She always knew just what to say And what to do for best She was everybody's Nanny And like another Mum I grew up with her soppy songs And a childhood full of fun Mornings made of rock n roll With Queen on VCR Afternoons of climbing trees And playing up the park Tea and chocolate fingers Making swords from bits of wood Setting an assault course She did everything she could So, Nan, here's to you Thanks for the advice Thanks for all the special memories We've shared for all my life I'll miss you and your quiet times Your pink envelopes and toast But I'll miss you on our birthday A little more than most I'll be watching for those blackbirds A sparrow or a wren And if I see them looking in on us I'll know it's you again You'll never really leave us You're always in our hearts Filling us with confidence If ever worry starts You made us all feel special With the things you'd say and do You told us all so often But you know we love you too There'll always be a gap Where our Nanny used to be But I know that there's a part of you Will always be with me Forever in my heart Stew
